Lexus Expands Choices With the 2021 Edition of Its Highly Popular ES Sedan

Experientially, the 2021 Lexus ES offers range. With two new variations of the signature sedan, Lexus drivers have more options than ever for a custom fit. The best-selling sedan in Lexus’ lineup, the ES continues to build on its momentum for all lifestyles.

Here are seven of this year’s highlights:

A traction attraction

The big news is that this sedan’s family is growing, headlined by the first-ever all-wheel drive model. The ES 250 AWD sends torque to all four wheels to help improve grip even when the driving conditions are less than ideal. This feature should especially appeal to customers who routinely encounter inclement weather. But AWD can enhance handling on dry pavement, too.

The other newcomer to the lineup is the ES 350 Black Line Special Edition. Lexus will make just 1,500 of these models. Each starts with the ES 350 F SPORT and then adds such points of distinction as a choice of three exterior colors, a white interior with gray stitching, blacked out sideview mirrors, darkened F SPORT wheels and a sporty new black rear lip spoiler. As a bonus, Black Line customers will also receive a set of two Edge Lightweight Collection travel cases made exclusively for Lexus by Zero Halliburton. The premium interiors of the black 22-inch carry-on and a 26-inch medium travel case incorporate a Lexus spindle grille motif and come with an embossed logo badge.

Pick your power

Customers in this segment can choose among three powertrains. The 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder generates up to 203 horsepower and can deliver a preliminary manufacturer’s estimate of 28 mpg in combined driving. Feeling the need for speed? Go with the 3.5-liter V6 that cranks out 302 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 267 ft.-lb. of torque at 4,700 rpm while returning a manufacturer-estimated 26 mpg in combined driving. Or you can maximize fuel efficiency and choose the latest iteration of Lexus’ innovative hybrid powertrain that produces a combined 215 total system horsepower and a manufacturer-estimated fuel economy of 44 mpg in combined driving.

Key structural advantages

Every 2021 ES rides upon the TNGA-K platform that makes this iteration longer, wider and lower than its predecessors. Ride quality and responsive handling are further enhanced by the more extensive use of high strength steel and laser screw welding, suspension upgrades (including Dynamic Control shocks in the rear) and a Drive Select Mode system that lets the driver adapt the vehicle to the road conditions at the touch of a button. The ES F SPORT takes this a step further and incorporates an Adaptive Variable Suspension that’s capable of 650 levels of adjustment based on sensors that measure linear and vertical g loads, vehicle speed, steering angle, yaw rate and master cylinder pressure. Simply put, this is the most technically refined ES yet.

Room to breathe

You’ll feel right at home within the curated confines of the ES’ interior, due to such refinements as a more natural steering wheel angle, revised pedal positions and standard 10-way power adjustable front seats. Rear-seat passenger comfort has long been an ES hallmark, and that continues for 2021 with more headroom thanks to a lower hip point and a carefully configured headliner. Meanwhile, this sedan’s cavernous trunk offers 16.7 cubic feet of storage space on all models. That includes the hybrid, now that its battery pack has been repositioned under the rear seat.

High infotainment quotient

Want to sync up your smartphone with the new ES? Choose among Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. Then access your apps and content via either the standard 8-inch Electro Multi Vision display or 12.3-inch screen available with the Navigation package. Meanwhile, onboard Wi-Fi powered by AT&T is standard on all ES models and comes with 4GB of data to get you started during the first three months of ownership. And Lexus Enform Safety Connect and Lexus Enform Service Connect are included for 10 years.

Active safety technology

Every new ES comes standard with the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 suite of active safety features that now includes Lane Departure Assist with Lane Tracing Assist. Also, all models except the base get Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert as standard.

The 2021 ES will begin arriving at Lexus dealerships this month.
