Five Things to Know About the Lexus Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Lineup

Lexus is building upon its legacy with its next chapter of electrified mobility.

An element of this vision includes offering a diverse mix of powertrain options to help meet the needs of Lexus guests. One of these options is the Lexus Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). A Lexus PHEV combines the benefits of all-electric driving during shorter trips with the peace of mind of a gas-powered engine during longer trips.

Currently, guests can choose from three PHEVs in the Lexus lineup:

  • NX 450h+ (luxury crossover)
  • RX 450h+ (midsize luxury SUV)
  • TX 550h+ (three-row luxury SUV)

All three Lexus PHEVs had their best-ever year in sales in 2025 and while each of these vehicles carves its own distinct path in style and capability, a commonality of innovation seamlessly unites them: efficiency.

Here are five things to know about the 2026 Lexus PHEV lineup.

Extended All-Electric Range and Advanced Charging Capabilities

All three Lexus PHEVs come standard with a Dual-Voltage vehicle-charging cable for 120V and 240V outlets, and all models are equipped with a J1772 (Type 1) socket for at-home and public charging.

Considering fully charged to be 80% for optimal battery health and using the maximum charging current of 240V (Level 2) and under ideal conditions:

  • The Lexus NX 450h+ and Lexus TX 550h+ can be fully charged in approximately three hours using their standard seven kW Onboard Charger.
  • The Lexus RX 450h+ can be fully charged in approximately two-and-a-half hours with the standard 6.6 kW Onboard Charger.

Beyond its ability to operate as a conventional hybrid, the 2026 NX 450h+ has a manufacturer estimated 37-mile all-electric range rating on a full charge, made possible by the high-capacity lithium-ion battery. The system has an EV output equivalent to a 2.0-liter engine and a manufacturer estimated combined 84 MPGe rating.

Powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery paired with a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine (shared with NX), the 2026 RX 450h+ hybrid system has a manufacturer-estimated combined 85 MPGe rating. On electric power only, the RX 450h+ has a manufacturer estimated 38-mile all-electric driving range rating on a full charge.

The TX 550h+ offers a Lexus-first, combining a powerful 3.5 VL V6 engine with DIRECT4. The two-motor transaxle works synergistically to deliver maximum efficiency, performance, and 404 total system horsepower. The high-capacity lithium-ion battery contributes to a manufacturer projected estimated EV range rating of 33 miles.

Premium Luxury and Seamless Tech Integration

With their heightened focus on efficiency, all three PHEV models retain the Lexus identity: a harmonious blend of luxury, craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology.

This translates directly into lavish interiors, serene cabin environments —centered around an intuitive touchscreen display. Inside each Lexus PHEV, the driver-focused cockpit intuitively orients all essential controls and information (e.g., gauges, available Head-Up Display, meters, etc.) within the driver’s reach and forward sightline.

What’s more, advanced driver-assistance systems like available Intelligent Assistant and other connectivity features help ensure the Lexus PHEV experience is filled with tech innovations and convenience.

Refined Performance and Intuitive Driving Dynamics

Powerful electric motors operate alone or, when the vehicles are operating as hybrids, combine with a gas engine to deliver immediate torque and seamless acceleration off the line. The result is an exhilarating and surprisingly smooth, quiet ride.

Each Lexus PHEV is as thrilling as it is extraordinary with the following 0-60 mph acceleration time, respectively:

  • NX 450h+: 6.0 seconds
  • RX 450h+: 6.2 seconds
  • TX 550h+: 5.9 seconds

Tailored Electrification for Various Lifestyles

The NX, RX and TX PHEVs collectively offer a compelling electrified solution for a wide range of premium SUV buyers.

Nimble and compact, the NX 450h+ is the luxury crossover that is ideal for city driving. As the midsize luxury SUV, the versatile RX 450h+ is great for family trips and longer drives. The spacious, three-row luxury SUV TX 550h+ is designed to help meet the diverse needs of Lexus guests needing maximum passenger capacity for frequent group travel.

These models demonstrate Lexus’s commitment to providing an efficient and powerful plug-in hybrid option no matter the size or lifestyle.

A Strategic Pillar in Lexus’s Electrification Roadmap

These three PHEVs help guests experience the benefits of electrification—reduced tailpipe emissions, instant torque and lower fuel cost—while still offering the complete flexibility of traditional refueling for any journey, distinguishing them from pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The implementation of PHEV technology across these Lexus vehicles highlights the company’s commitment to offering a variety of electrified powertrain options for Lexus guests.
